One of the little privileges of midlife is that you get to spend a little more time off to enjoy by yourself or with your family. They can go off on a nice little vacation and temporarily put their worries behind.

After the vacation, you feel recharged and ready to take on the world again. It is indeed a relief because along with the little privileges you enjoy in midlife, some of your challenges are also a bit tougher. These challenges may not necessarily just be in the workplace or in your business, but they could be about your health, family members, or something just plain out of the ordinary.

If it is about your health, you may actually be able to hit two birds with one stone by using your vacation time to relax and at the same time take care of your health. A good first step is to watch what you eat while on vacation. Here are a few tips on how to regulate your diet when traveling.
Continue reading "Eating Healthy On The Road"

Yes it is true that many in their ripe middle age still do not know how to distinguish between a flu and an allergy. Adding to the confusion is that many people use the word "flu" loosely to actually describe a "common cold". There are constitutional symptoms that distinguish a flu from the common cold.

So for the benefit of all the midlife folks (especially those living in the northern hemisphere because they are currently in what is described as "cold or flu season") who are still struggling with their runny noses or whooping coughs, we will attempt to explain in as simple terms as possible the characteristics of each condition. The purpose of this is so that people can understand their particular ailments better so that they can take the right treatments and prevent an extended bout with their sicknesses.
Continue reading "Differentiating Between A Flu, A Cold and An Allergy"

The immune system is sometimes an overlooked component of the body. Without it, we would be suffering from allergies and headaches practically every minute of the day. Not taking care of it can even be fatal at times.

As people get older and enter the midlife stage, they need to realize that some of the protective bodily functions are not the same as they were twenty years ago. Needless to say, if you want your body to keep doing the things you want it to, you must take good care of your immune system.

The human body is almost always under attack from various bacteria, parasites and other pathogens. They number in the trillions! So how do you suppose the immune system works to defend against these?
Continue reading "Boosting Your Immune System"

Almost everyone's probably heard of diet regimens that were named after their discoverers, for example the <INSERT NAME HERE> Diet Plan. The problem with some of these diets is that there are too many requirements and conditions that the dieter has to fulfill before any significant results can be obtained.

So how about a diet plan that provides consisitent benefits for as long as you take it? It doesn't require that you take a particular type of meal in the morning, another at lunch time and probably nothing in the evening. I call it the Green Tea Diet Plan. It's a humble little plan that doesn't require attaching the name of its discoverer to it. In fact its discoverer probably wouldn't want her name attached at all but her reputation is revered. We know her better as "Mother Nature".
Continue reading "The Green Tea Diet Plan"

There was a song from the early 70's entitled "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" by Wayne Newton. It's a separation/divorce song actually, quite sad. The song is about a little girl trying to catch up with her dad because dad's leaving home, for good.

On father's day, this very song title could take on an entirely new meaning for you and your dad. It might even be considered a difference maker. On his special day, put your arm around his shoulder, tell him "Daddy you gotta slow down some," and then take him to spa.
Consider the various sources of stress that affect us everyday--amount of work, unreasonable employer, traffic, pollution, maybe even unruly children at home. The list may go on and on. It wears you down, and makes you look years older than you are. It's a reality where sadly, there really is no escape.

On the positive side, there are many ways to alleviate stress. Among these are proper nutrition, getting enough rest, exercise and supplement all these with daily intake of multivitamins.
Continue reading "Multivitamins--Essential And Beneficial To Relieving Stress"

One of the most overlooked mechanisms of the human body is the immune system. To borrow a sports term, this is the equivalent of your body's "defensive specialist". It protects you against viruses, bacteria, and toxins. In turn, it helps prevent diseases and infections.

It goes without saying that to ensure your immune system keeps functioning, you need to take good care of it. One of the options is through the use of natural medicines. They have already gained widespread acceptance and they are extremely helpful in giving your body an added layer of protection.
Continue reading "Boosting Your Immnue System With Natural Medicine"

Good food! The joys of eating! Nothing quite compares. As the saying goes--you are what you eat. The problem with indiscriminate eating is your health suffers, but you already know that. So what we're going to present here is a plan on knowing and understanding what you eat.

You could compare this to going on a hunting trip--if you don't do some preliminary planning and fail to understand the environment in which you are doing your hunt, the trip could end up a disaster. When it comes to not planning and understanding what you eat, it's your health that could end up in jeopardy.
Continue reading "Planning Your Diet Helps Prevent Heart Disease"

How many of us have been on a diet at one time or another? Celebrities peddle their diet plans on TV as if it were some magic pill that you could take to shed the unwanted pounds and stay healthy. To be able to stay healthy, one must have the desire, and when you have the desire you need to take some action. But before you can take action, there are some things that need to be straightened out.

Some people think that dieting alone is enough to keep you healthy. It may work for some who have a kind of unique physiology but they are the exception rather than the rule. For the rest of us, it's a matter of dieting plus exercising.
Continue reading "Dieting Is Always A Happy Compromise"
